Financial Literacy Workshops

SASCU has adopted Each One, Teach One: a financial literacy program developed by Vancity Credit Union and, in the cooperative spirit, now shared with credit unions across Canada. Each One Teach One is intended to deliver basic financial skills workshops in community settings.

The sole purpose is simple: To raise basic financial literacy levels in our community and help people feel more confident about their finances and their future.

How Does the Program Work?

Delivered in plain language – and in local church basements, neighbourhood houses and community centres – the approach of Each One, Teach One is to meet individuals where they are, when they seek training to build the knowledge, skills and confidence they need in order to make financial decisions that are right for them.

Topics covered by the training sessions include: basic banking and budgeting, fraud prevention, safeguarding finances for seniors, RESPs and much more.

Why is SASCU offering these workshops? Expand/Collapse

SASCU is rooted in the cooperative principles which include providing education, training, and information through collaboration. Credit Unions distinguish themselves from other financial institutions by following these guidelines. This demonstrates to our communities where we deliver financial literacy workshops, what it means to be a member of a cooperative.

Are these SASCU-branded workshops? Expand/Collapse

No. Coaches are representatives of the community, not SASCU. Typically the only time a coach will mention SASCU is in their introduction when describing where they work.
