A Commitment to Financial Education and Empowering Our Community
SALMON ARM (January 13th, 2025) — SASCU Credit Union is launching a new financial education program, free to members and the wider community! The program, which includes facilitated workshops, online videos, activities, and other tools, is another way SASCU is living its new brand purpose, paraphrased as “Raise the Shuswap.
Word about the program is already getting around with nine workshops booked at schools and with community groups throughout the region. Program coordinator and SASCU’s Community Lead Erin Stagg is enthused about the role financial education plays in building a brighter future. “Money skills empower people to make financial choices with more confidence, wherever their starting point,” said Stagg. “Whether it’s learning how to budget, save, or invest, there will be resources available for everyone.”
Two main tools will be used. The first, “It’s a Money Thing,” is an entertaining collection of videos and resources created by Currency Marketing aimed at those early in their money management journey, including a series for kids. The second, "Each One, Teach One", an initiative created by the Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA) that encourages peer-to-peer financial learning and support. These resources will be used in workshops, shared on social media, and discussed in branches to spark meaningful conversations about money.
“Our community’s strength comes from its people, and by providing the tools for financial education, we are helping to build a stronger, more confident future for everyone in the Shuswap. Empowering individuals with the knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions is an investment in the entire region’s success and well-being.” – Barry Delaney, President and CEO, SASCU Financial Group.
“Raise the Shuswap” isn’t just about physical growth; it’s about supporting progress, learning, and helping one another. With increased financial knowledge, the community will grow stronger and more successful.
Exciting partnerships with local organizations will ensure that financial knowledge leads to success and well-being for everyone in the Shuswap.
Look out for information on upcoming community workshops!
